Job Description
Purpose and Overview:
The Tanzania Country Office (AECE1) of the World Bank is looking to hire a skilled and organized professional for the position of Driver (GA level) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The successful candidate will join the administrative team under the guidance of the Operations Manager and day-to-day oversight of the Senior Administrative Assistant. The Driver will provide transportation for official duties within Dar es Salaam and for field visits outside the city, maintain vehicle cleanliness and safety, adhere to road safety protocols, and handle delivery of official documents.
Key Responsibilities:
The Driver’s main duties include:
- Transporting authorized personnel to/from airports, meetings, appointments, and official assignments, including trips within Tanzania.
- Driving assigned office vehicles to ensure the safety of staff, passengers, and goods, while adhering to traffic laws.
- Meeting and assisting official personnel and mission staff at airports, including support with immigration and customs formalities.
- Performing routine vehicle maintenance, daily inspections, and minor repairs, while ensuring the vehicle remains clean and roadworthy.
- Ensuring passenger safety by maintaining functional safety equipment, including First Aid kits, and ensuring passengers wear seatbelts.
- Logging official trips, including mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities, per World Bank policies.
- Keeping vehicle documentation, such as insurance, current and visible at all times.
- Observing security information and ensuring safe driving practices in various environments.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding passengers’ conversations and activities.
- Reporting incidents or accidents immediately to the supervisor and following proper procedures.
- Performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional driving experience, preferably with an international organization.
- Proficient knowledge of road safety and traffic regulations.
- Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong English communication skills (spoken and written).
- Knowledge of UN security procedures and experience with VHF radio communication is an advantage.
- Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends.
- High integrity and personal commitment.
- Clean driving record, with no fault in any road accidents within the last three years.
- Team-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of delivering high-quality results under pressure.
- Adequate training in areas such as first aid, defensive driving, and emergency equipment handling.
- Medical clearance certifying fitness to drive.
Specialized Skills and Competencies:
- Strong decision-making, initiative, and time management abilities.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.
- Familiarity with the road network in Dar es Salaam and across Tanzania.
- Valid driving license, with certifications in defensive driving and first aid.
