SUA inajulikana zaidi kwa kutoa kozi na programu kwa upana katika nyanja ya Kilimo, Sayansi ya Mifugo, Misitu, Sayansi ya Wanyama, Usimamizi wa Wanyamapori, Usimamizi wa Utalii, Sayansi ya Mazingira, Sayansi ya Chakula, Maliasili, Lishe, Maendeleo Vijijini, tangu kuanzishwa kwake.
Historia ya Chuo Kikuu Cha SUA
Chuo Kikuu cha Sokoine cha Kilimo kilianzishwa kwa mara ya kwanza tarehe 1 Julai, 1984 kwa Sheria ya Bunge namba 14 ya mwaka 1984 kupitia marekebisho ya Sheria ya Bunge Namba 6 ya mwaka huo huo. Kufuatia kufutwa kwa Sheria hiyo, chuo sasa kinafanya kazi kupitia Mkataba wa Chuo Kikuu cha Sokoine cha Kilimo, 2007 kupitia mfumo mpana wa Sheria ya Vyuo Vikuu, 2005.
Historia ya Chuo Kikuu cha Sokoine cha Kilimo ilianza mwaka 1965 kilipoanza kama Chuo cha Kilimo kinachotoa mafunzo ya stashahada ya taaluma ya kilimo.
Baada ya kuvunjwa kwa Chuo Kikuu cha Afrika Mashariki na kuanzishwa kwa Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam (UDSM) Julai 1970, Chuo hicho kilibadilishwa na kuwa Kitivo cha Kilimo cha Chuo Kikuu cha Dar Es Salaam (UDSM) na hivyo kuanza kutoa Shahada. ya Sayansi katika Kilimo. .
Mnamo 1974, Kitengo cha Misitu kilianzishwa na kwa hivyo kitivo hicho kikapewa Kitivo cha Kilimo na Misitu.
Kuanzishwa kwa Shahada ya Sayansi ya Mifugo mwaka 1976 na kuanzishwa kwa Divisheni ya Sayansi ya Mifugo, Kitivo kiliitwa tena “Kitivo cha Kilimo, Misitu na Sayansi ya Mifugo”. .
Kitivo kilikuwa tarehe 1 Julai 1984 kilibadilishwa, kupitia Sheria ya Bunge Namba 6 ya 1984, kuwa Chuo Kikuu kamili na kikajulikana kama Chuo Kikuu cha Sokoine cha Kilimo (SUA).
Chuo hicho kilipewa jina la Chuo Kikuu cha Sokoine cha Kilimo kwa heshima ya Waziri Mkuu wa Tanzania wakati huo Edward Moringe Sokoine aliyefariki dunia mwaka 1984. Bonyeza HAPA kusoma Historia zaidi.
