Job Summary
The Light Vehicle Driver will be responsible for safe and efficient transportation of personnel and goods. The ideal candidate must adhere to AIRD’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), organizational policies, and Tanzanian traffic laws. Ensuring the security, maintenance, and proper use of assigned vehicles is also a key responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safe and Efficient Transportation
- Operate the assigned vehicle responsibly and safely for all official duties.
- Adhere to AIRD’s transportation guidelines and Tanzanian traffic laws.
- Safeguard vehicle equipment, documents, and tools.
- Follow all emergency protocols in case of accidents or malfunctions.
- Ensure that no unauthorized persons or goods are transported.
2. Vehicle Maintenance and Security
- Conduct daily vehicle checks (oil, water, brake fluid, tire pressure, battery levels, etc.).
- Report any vehicle defects, damages, or necessary repairs promptly.
- Perform minor repairs and maintain logbooks accurately.
- Schedule routine vehicle servicing and refueling to avoid downtime.
- Keep the vehicle clean both internally and externally.
3. Compliance and Reporting
- Maintain accurate travel logs in compliance with AIRD policies.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or security issues immediately.
- Submit monthly maintenance and fuel consumption records.
- Follow AIRD’s safety and operational guidelines at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Requirement:
- A Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or higher.
- A Driving Course Certificate from a recognized institution (VETA or NIT).
- An Advanced Driver’s Certificate (Grade Two) is an added advantage.
- Professional Requirement:
- A valid driving license, certified by the Tanzania Police Force-Traffic Division.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a light vehicle driver in a reputable organization.
- Previous experience working with humanitarian organizations (NGOs) is an added advantage.
Additional Requirements
- Proficiency in English and Kiswahili (both spoken and written).
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Strong defensive driving skills and awareness of road safety regulations.
- Knowledge of Tanzania’s traffic laws, occupational health, and environmental safety standards.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
